Moments after birth.  Unstaged & snapped with an iphone

Why I chose a planned homebirth

My body was designed to grow and birth a baby. I trusted my body and the birth process and I wanted a care provider who did too –   a midwife was the most natural fit. My midwife guided me through the process as a partner and caregiver – never telling me what to do or how to do it, but allowing me to be in charge of my body and my birth. She respected me as a person and mother. Home was the most natural and comfortable setting for me. I wanted a natural, drug-free birth, and I knew that was most likely to happen at home under the care of midwife. I felt safer and more secure at home than in a hospital.

Why my homebirth was awesome

I got to walk around naked. I got to eat strawberries and peanut butter apples while laboring in my kitchen. I knew where everything was. There were no strangers there – only family and midwives who knew and loved me. I had control of my surroundings and wasn’t interrupted at all during the birth process. No noisy machines or people asking questions. No judgment. No needles, no IVs, no meds! Freedom to move around as much as I wanted. If I had to labor on my back I probably would have lost my mind. I got to follow my instincts and allow my body to do what it naturally wanted to do. No invasive exams. We had a microwave to heat up my rice sock! My husband got to catch his daughter. Delayed cord clamping, immediate skin-to-skin, delayed newborn exam so I could nurse my daughter. I got to cuddle in my own bed with my husband and baby girl right after she was born. No interventions, no interruptions – just beautiful, birthing bliss!

My homebirth was intimate, beautiful, and so incredibly peaceful. Don’t get me wrong, labor was hard work and the pain was intense. But in an instant, the work is over; the pain vanishes. And as life springs from the deepest part of your body and your soul, your very being expands and swells and you are, at once, surrounded, enveloped by the most beautiful intense bliss.

The pain is an important part of the process. It hurts and it’s intense, but I got to feel the full might of creation moving through me. I count that as a blessing.  It was transformative and I don’t think I would have been able to fully appreciate the power and magic of birth without the pain that came with it. It was the best experience of my life. Can’t wait to do it again

Having a home birth was the best, most transformative experience of my life. I feel so lucky that this is an option - it's one that I will choose for all of my future births! Thank you, Jennifer for your skilled and gentle care. I am so grateful for your support and guidance.

"I wanted to say thank you for all that you did to help make K.K’s arrival into this world as peaceful as you did!  Coming from a Grandma’s perspective, I so appreciated your demeanor, your sense of calm, and even spending time conversing before A’s labor was so intense!

You left no mess behind & I was appreciative of that as well!  Again, thank you for being there to share with us this amazing experience we call LIFE!"
